Discuss: PFA Makeover: Odeo

I think you are right on the money.

The flow should be exactly like that.

I think your Amazon comparison works better than your Google one (since there is rarely a sign-in for the latter), but either way I agree completely. Tools should be easy and the barrier to entry low. Especially with podcast creation, which is probably still a mystery to most people.

If I were Odeo, I’d even adopt a version of your 1, 2, 3 steps. Make it clear what will happen first (record), then what will happen next (publishing), and where it will all end up (public channel or not, etc).

Makes sense to me. Have you contacted Odeo about this? I guess they might pick this post up in the flow, but still, worth getting their attention nonetheless.

I can see the allure on this and how it makes so much sense. Conceptually, you’re right on the money.

Technically I’d like to know how would Odeo deal with the creation of thousands of temp podcast files which may (or may not) be part of an user’s account, since you can’t count on everybody trying the Record function to become a full-fledged Odeo user, although I’d bet the ratio would be a very high one if only for the novelty factor. I happen to have a project of sorts along these lines so I’m obviously curious to see how they could pull something like that behind the scenes.

So, I contacted Odeo and was sent a reply that it was going to be forwarded to their “Ideas!” department.

They have departments?  Oh my.

As always, Odeo is welcome to stop by and comment here. All of the other tools vendors have…

[...] Evoca a new podcasting-like service that lets you record and share audio messages, did something on their front page that I wish I could take credit for. Last December I did a Odeo Makeover where I recommended that Odeo a simple recording tool to the front page of their website. The idea was that people should be able to create podcasts a easily as they are able to search Google. The sign-up and account creation should occur after the audio is created, not before. Well, Evoca has done just that. [...]
